Bays of Lake Ontario
Lake Ontario is the 14th largest lake in the world but the smallest of the Great Lakes. The lake features sheltered locations or bays including: Sodus Bay (Sodus Point), East Bay, Port Bay and Fairhaven.
Sodus Bay is located approximately half-way between Syracuse and Rochester in Central New York. A shallow bay, the majority of the water is less than 20 feet in depth. Area highlights include: swimming, boating, fishing, the Sodus Bay Lighthouse Museum, skiing and Heluva Good Cheese. East Bay is a small bay of Lake Ontario located east of Sodus Bay in the town of Huron. Residents can enjoy numerous outdoor pursuits including swimming, boating and fishing. Located between Rochester and Oswego, Port Bay is considered one of Lake Ontario’s best sport fishing locations. Fishing the Bays of Lake Ontario
The Bays of Lake Ontario are the place to be for anglers. Whether fishing on your own, with friends and family or with a charter some of the fish you might find include:
Sodus Bay: northern pike, walleye, yellow perch, smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, pumpkinseed, bluegill, rock bass, crappie, white perch, carp, bullhead, brown trout, rainbow trout, lake trout, Coho salmon, Chinook salmon, Atlantic salmon and channel catfish. You can also enjoy a short season of ice fishing.
East Bay: brown bullhead, white sucker, yellow perch, largemouth bass, pumpkinseed, bluegill, rock bass, northern pike and various salmon.
Port Bay: bass, brown trout, steelhead, lake trout and king salmon
Fair Haven: smallmouth bass, brown trout, rainbow trout, lake trout, Coho salmon, Chinook salmon, Atlantic salmon, walleye, northern pike and smallmouth bass.
Where to Access the Bays of Lake Ontario
Sodus Point Beach Park - Features sand beach with playground and boat launch. The park is located on Wickham Boulevard in Sodus Point.
Lake Shore Marshes Wildlife Management Area - Located between Rochester and Syracuse features boat access sites and trails for use by fishermen, hunters and hikers.
Fair Haven Beach State Park - Located two miles north of Fair Haven on Route 104A. Amenities include beach, boat launch sites, nature trail and playing fields.
Bays of Lake Ontario Wineries
